This is the first time we have run an open-enrolment testing workshop and we can’t wait!

There is so much interest in how products perform in particular situations that may not be covered by a particular standard so this is an opportunity to design and conduct your own tests and consider how to interpret your results.  Of course we’ll have a bunch of ideas to run through however this is an excellent opportunity to bring along a few things you’d like to break and see just how they work.

This course is aimed at Rope Technicians and Rescue Operators who already have a high level of understanding of the work conducted in the vertical realm.  You will not need to bring anything with you apart from an open mind and a few good questions.  If there is any specialised or unusual equipment you would like to bring to include in the testing it will no doubt add to the workshop.

Participant numbers will be limited.

The workshop will be presented by Richard Delaney (Rope Lab Pty Ltd).  Richard has an extensive background in many roping disciplines spanning more than 25 years.  He has worked as a rock climbing instructor, a trainer of outdoor leaders, and now is a certified and active level 3 rope access technician and accredited vertical rescue instructor.  Richard is also an evaluator/assessor for the Australian Rope Access Association (ARAA) and the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT).

The sessions presented in this two-day workshop will include:

  • Scientific Method and a robust approach to testing.
  • System design and use of load cells.
  • Safety while setting up and conducting tests.
  • Basic statistics and relevance to small sample testing.
  • Recording tests: physical data and video.
  • Interpretation of results.
  • Dealing with adverse results and working with manufacturers.

Our goals are:

  • To increase participants’ theoretical understanding of rescue and rope access systems.
  • To expose participants to a range of equipment and increase their ability to make smarter choices on the job.
  • To break stuff.

While there will be no formal assessment of skills or understanding, we will provide you with a Certificate of Attendance to support your professional development requirements.
