Rope grabs: when will they slip?

There are many rope grabs used by technicians including:

  • Personal ascenders
  • Attachment devices for raising people and loads
  • Attachment devices for positioning people and loads

Just how much can each of these hold before the rope slips?

These grabs have also often been referred to as ‘fuses’ or as ‘the weak link’ designed into the system in the hope that they will slip before other equipment is damaged.
